Short animated film section – High school
SCARY DRAGON (3′), 2021. 🎬 Foto kino video klub Zaprešić, Zaprešić 📝 Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a small village. In that village, hidden from view, lived good and hardworking women. Life was good. 👁🗨 Films like this amazing work by young animators from Zaprešić are made long before shooting starts. The stop-motion animation technique requires thoughtful preparation, work on the characters and set design, and detailed synchronization of the story and its realization. That is why this fairytale about shepherdesses and dragons seems not only original and artistically superior, but also lucid in every great detail. 🏆 Best Animated Film (26th Youth Film Festival & 14th Four River Film Festival)
DISTANCE (3′), 2021. 🎬 Katarzyna Orłowska, University of the Arts Poznan, Poland 📝 Two people stare at the flashing lights outside their windows and think about overcoming the distance between each other. The stillness of an empty station and repetitive views from the train window only deepen their loneliness. 👁🗨 The man and woman imbued with almost palpable loneliness in this absolutely beautiful black-and-white animated film remind us of our most vulnerable moments in which we are separated from each other even though we don’t want to be. It’s so cinematically compelling that it seems like this is the work of a much older author, not a 21-year-old. 🏆 Best Screenplay (26th Youth Film Festival & 14th Four River Film Festival)
