Fiction film section – Primary school

ŠIME’S DIARY (11′), 2023.
🎬 Srinjine Primary School, Srinjine
📝 Šime is an ordinary sixth grader. He doesn’t have a diary, but every day on his way to school he thinks about his life, things that worry him, but also things that make him happy. He is from the seaside, although he has blond hair and fair skin. He is worried about where he will go on vacation this year, what his grandmother will make for lunch, why his parents won’t give him a cat for his birthday, but above all, he is worried about his love life.
👁‍🗨 The repetitive visuals seem to be opposed to the protagonist’s inner monologue, but they perfectly evoke the suggestiveness of the protagonist’s “insubstantial” everyday life. Just like in life, when nothing is happening, everything is happening. A very funny film that skilfully transferred a diary entry into fiction.

👁‍🗨 A film about a film. One shot. A concept. By accident? Not at all. Completely thought out, and the result is effective and rounded. The actors are excellent, the situation is familiar, and the final product is documentary-like. Since documentary films wish to be fiction, and fiction films wish to be documentaries, this film completed its purpose.
