Animated film section – Elementary school
THERE’S SOME GOOD IN EVERY EVIL (3′), 2019 🎬 Photo Cinema Video Club Zaprešić, Zaprešić 📝 Since the main character of this animated film has lost his job, and thus his obligations, he finally has time to commit to his hobby. In doing so, he hangs out with his new friend, who is, by the way, responsible for him not having a job anymore. 👁🗨 The shots are great, and the film wittily conveys a popular proverb. The characters, which are made only of plasticine, are very detailed and beautifully made. 🏆 1st award of children’s jury (57th Croatian Children’s Film Festival)
UNDER THE MASK (2′), 2019 🎬 School of Animated Film Čakovec, Čakovec 📝 The little bear does not fit into his school environment. Everyone wears some kind of mask, or costume, except for him. He decides to join the majority and make himself a mask. But will he really find happiness that way? 👁🗨 A precise drawing of strong contours is accompanied by the always current question of how to fit in. Just as the mask hides the true face of the main character eager for acceptance, a feeling that the authors have gone through a similar scenario in their lives is also hidden. 🏆 2nd award of expert jury (57th Croatian Children’s Film Festival)
PARALLELS OF RED AND WHITE (3′), 2019 🎬 Creative Film Studio VANIMA, Varaždin 📝 The film was created as a project by beginner animators who created the script by studying the similarities and differences between the Japanese and Croatian cultures, customs and symbols. Animated comparisons of hairstyles, letters, turkey and sushi, linden and bonsai, bicycles and suzuki, umbrellas and parasols, Professor Balthazar and Japanese anime were created. 👁🗨 A wonderful project in which two cultures on two continents are compared and contextualized. An interesting film rounded off by an almost anthological scene, in which Balthazar welcomes a character from a Japanese animated film in his laboratory. 🏆 Special mention of expert jury (57th Croatian Children’s Film Festival)
